IGI has resumed classes in Istanbul, again providing Middle East residents with training and paths to careers in the diamond, gem, and jewelry industry. Students from Turkey, Syria, and Iran attended the first classes to recommence last month.

Just days after certifying a record-setting 35 carat lab grown diamond, IGI has certified a 50.25 carat specimen measuring 22.95 x 18.45 x 11.57 millimeters – the first lab grown diamond to surpass the significant “half-century” mark in carat weight.

IGI has analyzed and graded a 35.00 carat laboratory grown diamond measuring 23.37 x 15.24 x 9.06 millimeters, the largest to date. Produced by Maitri Lab Grown Diamonds (Maitri), the new record holder was grown using the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process.

IGI provided a ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour to attendees of last month’s NYC Jewelry Week in Manhattan, showcasing the institute’s grading and appraisal processes for diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry.

IGI has partnered with Luxus, a new platform permitting people to invest in a “best in class” selection of precious gems, high jewelry and rare watches. The institute will serve as Luxus’ independent valuation partner, setting the value of pieces listed on the platform. 

Handheld gemstone testers are commonly used to differentiate between diamond and diamond-simulants like CZ and moissanite. However, as diamond growing technology advances the technology used in those devices becomes more limited.

Gold and gemstone prospectors work the streets of New York’s illustrious diamond district, but you might not recognize them at first. IGI Hong Kong is pleased to announce the opening of new headquarters in the historic Hung Hom district, the home of numerous jewelry producers, international jewelry trade shows and expos and the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturer’s Association.

Tiffany & Co. has announced a program detailing the provenance of the diamonds they sell, beginning with country and mine of origin. The New-York based jeweler plans to share this “Full Craftsmanship Journey” for every newly-sourced diamond of 0.18 carats or more.
