Women’s Jewelry Association: Future of Forty

The Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) turned forty last year and the group continues to celebrate this milestone by honoring people who are moving the industry forward. Its “Future of Forty” gala held in November at Guastavino’s in New York City, did just that.

The WJA President Says

“Founded in 1983 to build a professional network for women in the jewelry and watch industries, the Women’s Jewelry Association has grown into a global organization supporting women’s careers through education, networking, and business development, while championing diversity and inclusivity,” said Susan Chandler, WJA president and chief merchandising officer for Citizen Watch America.

“Winning the Kaiser award was quite humbling,” said Chandler. “To have one’s name associated with such a legend is a true honor. I have been a supporter and member of WJA for decades. Their mission to help women achieve their meaningful and rightful place in our industry is so very important to our future.”

The Community Award

Annie E. Doresca, chief financial and operating officer, Jewelers of America, received the Community Award honoring her outstanding dedication to fostering positive change and inclusivity.

“Receiving the WJA Community Award is an incredible honor that holds deep meaning for me. It’s not just a recognition of my individual contributions, but a celebration of the collective work and impact of the communities I’ve been privileged to serve. This award affirms the power of fostering meaningful connections, promoting equity, and uplifting underrepresented voices in the jewelry industry and beyond,” remarked Doresca. “For me, this moment symbolizes resilience, collaboration, and the belief that we are stronger together. I am deeply humbled by this recognition and inspired to continue creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and building inclusive communities that empower growth and shared success.”

The Innovator Award

Grant Mobley, jewelry and watch editor for Only Natural Diamonds, was given the WJA Innovator Award, recognizing his transformative impact on the jewelry industry through creativity and visionary leadership.

This award reflects not just my journey, but the collective support, education, and inspiration I’ve received from the diamond and jewelry community over the years. I’m profoundly grateful.”

“The WJA Legacy Award is not only incredibly professionally meaningful as our company celebrates our 50th year in business, but profoundly personally important to me as a new mom to a daughter,” said Padis. “When I first entered the jewelry world fourteen years ago, I couldn’t have imagined how transformative it would be. I was guided, supported, and championed by some of the most talented women I know. And my growth within this industry has been on the shoulders of many of the WJA trailblazers and leaders who painstakingly paved the path for an enthusiastic young girl who just wanted to get involved and pay forward the warm welcome she received when she decided to join the family business.”

The event was also a fundraiser, garnering $15,800 for the WJA Foundation.
