Hong Kong based Coronet, a division of Aaron Shum Jewelry, set the Guinness World Record for most diamonds set on a watch at last year’s Baselworld, the watch and jewelry trade show in Basel, Switzerland.
An astonishing 15,858 diamonds weighing 50.01 carats total adorn the award-winning diamond watch which is named Mudan ( 牡丹 ), which is the Chinese word for peony. Diamonds, timepiece and 18-karat gold were crafted together in the shape of a dazzling, blossoming peony. Heralded as the king of flowers in Chinese culture, the peony symbolizes honor, wealth and notoriety.
Jewelry designer and artist Reena Ahluwalia painted the realistic faceted-diamond on the dial of the watch, which features real diamonds at the 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 and 12:00 positions. She commented:
I feel honored that my artwork has made it into the Guinness World Records. While growing up, I used to read about the Guinness World Records with pure amazement, so this feels very special to me.
