Peridot for ‘Patty’s Day’

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated all around the world, particularly in Ireland and among those of Irish descent. It is a day of revelry, merriment, and green-themed festivities. And while it’s not possible to wear the blarney stone, one of the gemstone that’s often associated with St. Patrick’s Day is peridot. The gem variety of the mineral olivine, peridot is composed of magnesium iron silicate and is one of the only gemstones found in a single color – green.

Evening Emerald

For centuries, peridot has been prized for its unique color, said to resemble the green of the lush Irish landscape. In ancient times, it was often referred to as “evening emerald” because its color was thought to be particularly vibrant in the soft light of evening.

Peridot has been associated with various cultures and religions throughout history. In Islam, for example, it is believed that peridot was one of the stones used to adorn the gates of paradise. In Hawaiian culture, peridot is seen as a symbol of the goddess Pele. Today peridot is celebrated as the birthstone of August and commonly worn in earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.

Having Fun

Peridot is also said to have spiritual properties that make it particularly well-suited to St. Patrick’s Day. It is believed to have a calming effect on the wearer, helping to soothe anxiety and promote relaxation. That makes it a perfect gemstone to wear on a day which is all about enjoying the moment and having fun. In addition to its spiritual properties, peridot is said to be a stone of prosperity and good luck. It is believed to attract wealth and abundance to the wearer, making it a popular choice for those who are hoping to improve their financial situation.
