Van Cleef & Arpels have introduced a stunning collection of mystery set jewels. The celebrated Maison combined an exceptional rough diamond with state of the art planning and inspiring jewelry design to create 25 pieces, all with diamonds cut from the same rough stone.
Chapter #1:
In this first of five installments covering Legend of Diamonds, 25 Mystery Set Jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels we’ll show you Chemin Mystérieux, Couture Mystérieuse, Écho Mystérieux ring, Ganse Mystérieuse and Écho Mystérieux earrings.
The Lesotho Legend
At a weight of 910 carats, the Lesotho Legend was the fifth largest rough diamond ever mined. It also ranked among the highest quality crystals ever recovered, with prestigious Type IIa chemical composition and D color. Meticulous analysis of the rough crystal with modern technology and experienced advice from a master diamond cutter culminated in the ‘birth’ of 67 polished diamonds.
Sibling Stones, Grouped by Design
Creation #1: Chemin Mysterieux
The bangle is punctuated by six round diamonds, which are triple EX. Three round D-FL Type IIa diamonds for 4.81 carats, 3 round D-IF Type IIa diamonds for 2.77 carats
Creation #2: Couture Mysterieuse
Like a freshly tied ribbon on the Couture Mystérieuse ring, swirls of Traditional Mystery Set rubies seem to spring from an oval diamond of more than 18 carats, held in place by a three-pronged bezel. The ring’s airy structure allows the gem’s purity and whiteness to be admired from every angle.

Creation #3: Echo Mysterieux Ring
With an offset placement between two fingers, the central diamond peaks at the top of a Mystery Set ribbon whose asymmetrical movement dresses the hand with a modern touch.
D-FL Type IIa cushion-cut diamond of 25.06 carats
Creation #4: Ganse Mysterieuse
A D-FL Type IIa diamond of 7.73 carats adorns the Ganse Mystérieuse ring with its lavish proportions.
On this multi-dimensional creation reminiscent of a belt buckle, the emerald-cut stone is mounted in a raised setting, topping a ring body that is in buff-topped Mystery Set rubies and pink sapphires.
Creation #5: Echo Mysterieux Earrings
Two D-FL Type IIa cushion-cut diamonds of 12.65 and 12.61 carats
The earrings match without being identical, with the colors reversing from one piece to the other. They give rise to delicate transformations thanks to their detachable pendant.
