Dior’s 88.88 carat Lucky Charm

Christian Dior founded his business on the 8th of October in 1946. Located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, his atelier included 8 studios from an 8 story building situated on Avenue Montaigne. His legendary “New Look” employed thin waisted female silhouettes with hourglass shapes, reminiscent of the number 8, and are symbolic of Dior’s En Huit line (Huit means 8 in French). Now Christian Dior’s favorite number has been “written in stone,” to celebrate a historic reopening.

30 Avenue Montaigne, Paris

Earlier this month the Dior flagship store in Paris opened its doors again, following two years of refurbishment. Recognizing the thematic history of the number 8, the fashion house arranged to have a celebration diamond cut to precisely 88.88 carats. The original rough diamond, unearthed in 2020 at the Kimberley Mine in South Africa, weighed 150 carats. After nine months of careful study and planning, the ‘Le Montaigne’ was produced, an 88.88 carat Fancy Intense Yellow cushion cut diamond with VVS2 clarity.
