Lucapa Diamond Company has just recovered a 204 carat rough diamond from its Mothae mine in Lesotho. This 204 carat white stone is the eighth 100+ carat diamond and the third 200+ carat to be recovered since mining commenced in January 2019.
Lucapa will sell the stone to Safdico, owned by Graff, per an agreement the reached last year. That deal also encompasses up to 60% of production from Lucapa’s Lulo mine in Angola. According to Lucapa:
The large, high-value diamonds produced from these two niche African diamond mines attract some of the highest prices per carat for rough diamonds globally.
Previously, a 215 carat, type IIa D color diamond was unearthed in February 2021 and a 220 carat diamond of lower quality was extracted in November 2019.
