2022 Hong Kong JGW Fair will happen in Singapore

“The mother of all fairs,” Jewellery & Gem World (JGW) will temporarily relocate from Hong Kong to Singapore in 2022. The move is made with pandemic restrictions in mind, with a goal of becoming more accessible to international suppliers and buyers.

Update: The event will now be staged September 27-30 at the Singapore Expo.

A Safer Venue

In recent months Hong Kong has undergone renewed COVID outbreaks, increasing restrictions on travel and gathering in public. At the same time Singapore has eased travel and social distancing restrictions. Looking ahead, Singapore appears to be a safer bet for the successful hosting of an extremely crowded fair.

A Series of Pivots

Event organizer Informa Markets Jewellery has spent the last two years adapting to industry needs in the midst of the pandemic, staging special edition and virtual events to connect buyers and sellers. According to Asia Informa Markets Senior Vice President David Bondi:

Industry stakeholders overwhelmingly told us they wanted safe and secure physical fairs that they could participate in, and Informa Markets delivered by successfully hosting enhanced large-scale in-person events in the US, Europe, Middle East and Asia in the last several months, with many more firmly scheduled for 2022 and beyond.

Coming Home in 2023

The September JGW show, among the world’s largest and most popular, has a longstanding association with Hong Kong. It’s frequently referred to as “the Hong Kong show” by trade members, despite numerous events of significance taking place in the Pearl of the Orient. According to Celine Lau, Informa Markets’ Director of Jewellery Fairs:

Our community can rest assured that Hong Kong will be ready to deliver the full JGW experience in 2023 when conditions allow for safe and responsible in-person interactions, and international travel restrictions are lifted.
