IGI India recently certified a 14.60 carat lab grown diamond, reportedly the largest ever produced using the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) growth method. The recorded weight surpasses the previous record-holder, certified by IGI last November, by nearly two carats.
Judged to be Type IIa, the most chemically pure category, the 14.60 carat F color, VS2 clarity emerald cut has measurements of 13.50 x 13.20 x 8.93 millimeters. Grown by Mumbai-based Ethereal Green Diamond, the record holder has been named Freedom of India, a reference to the country’s 75th Independence Day which occurred on August 15th.
Peace of Mind
Tehmasp Printer, Managing Director of IGI India discussed the record setting gemstone with the press. In addition to details regarding the Freedom of India’s provenance, Printer underscored the importance of laboratory certification for any diamond or gemstone for purposes of authenticity and “peace of mind” for the end consumer.

World Leader in Diamond and Jewelry Grading
IGI pioneered full grading of lab grown diamonds and regularly certifies world-record setting polished lab grown diamonds and lab grown diamond rough crystals. In April, 2021, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certified IGI with the ISO 17025 accreditation for lab-grown diamonds, making IGI’s laboratories the world’s first to hold ISO accreditation for both natural and lab-grown diamonds.
